Start with a bite to eat – if you’re in the mood for Mexican, Tacombi’s W. 24th St. location is affordable and delicious (their perfectly balanced avocado tostada is our favorite thing on their menu, and we dream about putting their red salsa on just about everything we eat). If you’d like something different, and don’t mind a crowd, Chelsea Market has an array of food options that will suit anyone’s fancy, in a bustling environment. Right now we’re loving the pastries at ALF Bakery, but we also adore the mulas at Los Tacos No. 1, the Jamaican bites at Tings, and the ceviches and aguachiles at Los Mariscos

Head west to the Chelsea gallery district. In and around the far west 20s, just off the Hudson River, you’ll find dozens of art galleries, all free and open to the public for browsing. Pop into whichever ones catch your eye - we’re partial to David Zwirner, Hauser & Wirth, Gagosian, and Pace

David Zwirner, 525 W. 19th St.
Hauser & Wirth, 542 W. 22nd St. (closed for summer, reopens September 7)
Gagosian, 555 W. 24th St. and 522 W. 21st St.
Pace, 540 W. 25th St.

5pm

Ready for a drink? We love the happy hour at Chelsea’s Mermaid Inn outpost, featuring $10 cocktails and wine, and $6 beer. We personally love to get the Hot & Dirty cocktail (think dirty vodka martini, gone spicy) and pair it with a dozen oysters - a steal at $1.50 apiece.
